Experiment 3 The student measured and recorded the duration of the jocularities for different durations of gastiles (Table 3). TABLE 3

Duration of Jocularities Primary Jocularities (seconds)

Secondary Jocularities (seconds)

Gastiles (seconds)

0.2 1.0 2.5 5.0 12.0

4 *Duration was below measurable levels. See, that wasn’t so bad, was it? Actually, that passage is made up of gibberish terms like “malodorzane,” “jocularity,” and “gastiles” to illustrate that you can do well on the Science Test even without understanding the science content. Could you answer a few questions about the passage, now that you’ve calmly previewed it? Well, let’s see. Since the Science Test is similar to the Reading Test, it’s not surprising that the questions fall into similar categories: • Some questions ask about the overall purpose of the experiments or the main issue of a debate. • Some questions require students to locate information. In fact, some Reading questions refer to particular lines in a passage ( In line #, what is…? ), and some Science questions do the same thing ( According to Table #, what…? ). • Some Reading questions ask students to synthesize information ( If such-and-such were no longer needed, what would the author expect to happen…? ). Science questions can ask the same thing ( Assuming that the temperature doubles, what happens to the so- and-so? ). Keeping this in mind, try answering the following questions based on the provided passage. 1. Data from the passage indicate that duration was greatest for secondary jocularities produced by gastiles of what duration? A. 1.0 seconds B. 2.5 seconds C. 5.0 seconds D. 12.0 seconds
